Are you going to be caught by the Child Benefit Trap?
The Government have announced plans to reduce Child benefit where any member of a household earns more that £50,000 on a sliding scale and remove it entirely where income is over £60,000
If you are within this band of earnings or just above and have funds to contribute to a pension then there are ways to mitigate against this loss. As you contribute to a pension it raises your threshold by an equal amount.
For example if you earn £55,000 but decide to contribute £4,000 which would be grossed up to £5,000 through basic tax relief then you would fall below the threshold and retain the full child benefit.
